Take advantage of GiliSoft File Lock Pro, the universal utility for protecting confidential data. With this simple yet effective tool, you can hide or restrict access to files, folders, partitions, disks and removable media, encrypt directories, and set a ban on running custom applications.
Installation and interface
The installation of GiliSoft File Lock Pro is somewhat unusual in that, unlike similar applications, a password to run the program itself must be entered before installation. You will also need to reboot your computer after the installation for the changes to take effect. You will be prompted for your password each time you run File Lock Pro.

The utility has a peculiar and, as we thought, quite a nice graphical interface. The main window is divided into two parts.
The right part is the actual work area, where all manipulations with files, folders and disks are performed, and the left part is a drop-down menu consisting of six items, which we will call modules for convenience. We will consider them in order.
Features:
- Hide File. Using this module’s tools, you can hide individual files, folders and drives, including network drives, from other users’ eyes. For example, you need to hide a file. Add an object to the list, tick the box and set the “hidden” status, after which it will be securely hidden. You can do the same for individual directories or disks.
- Locking File. This function does not hide objects as with Hide File tools, it simply blocks access to them in read mode. If it is a separate file, such as a picture or text document, you will most likely get a denial of access or an error when opening, but if it is a directory or a partition, then the program will ask you to enter a password. The same one you set at the beginning of the installation. You will not be able to delete, move or copy the locked object in the usual way. And even the famous Unlocker will not help you here.
- Deny Write. We won’t stop at it. It works the same way as Deny Read only in write mode.
- The fourth module is called “More Tools” and includes two main tools: “Encrypt a Folder” and “Safe delete a Folder”. What do you need them for?
The first tool allows you to encrypt a directory by converting it into an executable file or object with the GFL extension. This file is a kind of archive, capable of storing almost any data. Naturally, when creating it, the program will require a password.
It has nothing to do with the main password to start the program itself. The folders encrypted in this way can be copied, moved or renamed in the usual way. The “Safe delete a Folder” function is designed to securely delete directories from your hard drive. The tools of this module are available only from the Explorer context menu.
Usage Features
The scope of the utility is not limited to hiding or protecting folders and files. GiliSoft File Lock Pro can also be used as a parental control tool by prohibiting certain applications from running.
For example, you want to restrict access to some serious program where incorrect actions can lead to problems with the operating system. There is nothing simpler than that.
Just right-click on the executable file or program shortcut on your desktop and select “Deny Read” from the context menu. You don’t have to worry about the settings. If you wish, you can change your password here, as well as use some additional hiding features, such as “remove” GiliSoft File Lock Pro shortcut from the desktop, Start menu or Explorer context menu.
